10 tips for the best Catch the Crush October 12-13

  1. GET YOUR TICKETS

The most authentic wine harvest experience in the state! 39 wineries all along the Yakima Valley are offering memorable experiences, amazing wine, and special offers for Catch the Crush ticket holders. Event details and tickets here.

  1. HAVE A WINEGLASS READY

Bring your favorite wineglass from home. I prefer a plastic stemless glass but I am such a klutz. My husband won’t drink anything unless it’s poured into his big red wine glass.  Stemless, with stem, glass, or plastic. You provide the wine glass and we will fill it with amazing wine all weekend long.

  1. DOWNLOAD WINERY MAP

Keep this handy on your phone to help you best map out your plan. We recommend spending one day in the Yakima/Zillah/Sunnyside area and another in the Prosser/Benton City/Red Mountain area. Click here to download the winery map.

  1. GET A GOOD NIGHT’S REST

Whether you prefer a suite downtown or a teepee in a vineyard, the Yakima Valley can meet your needs. Check out your best options here.

  1. WEAR THIS-NOT THAT

Sensible shoes might not be fall’s hottest trend but believe us, you will want comfortable footwear. Some wineries are downtown on concrete and some are in the middle of a vineyard. Either way, comfort is key. The temperature in Yakima during harvest can fluctuate 20 degrees in a single day. Layer up! If you dress in layers you can stay comfortable throughout the changing temps.

  1. EAT

Catch the Crush is a marathon not a sprint, stay fueled. Many wineries are hosting the tastiest food trucks found in the Yakima Valley. From pizza to tacos and everything in between and everything is worth a try! At the end of your tasting day if you are staying in Yakima try Crafted for a truly memorable food experience. Their wine list is on point but if you need a break from the vino, please try their Fig Manhattan-do it for us. Or Bon Vino’s if you are staying in the Prosser area, two words: Tuscan Fettuccine. The Yakima Valley food scene is as varied and authentic as our wine. You won’t be disappointed.

  1. TALK

At most wineries the winemaker or winery owner will be present, pouring wine, and engaging with Catch the Crush pass holders. We have never met a winemaker or tasting room employee who didn’t love to talk about their wine, the process, and the grapes. Don’t be shy and don’t worry about looking silly. There are NO wrong questions, so ask away.

  1. HANDLE THE RED WINE SMILE

Trust us, we have tried everything. Once we even carried a toothbrush in our purses to do a quick brush in between tastings. Multiple tastings of red wine can leave your teeth stained but you don’t have to stick to whites.  In our experience a good swig of water and some gum AFTER you finish your wine will do the trick.

  1. GO FOR IT

This is the weekend to be spontaneous! Never felt your toes squish between a cluster of Cab Sauv? Go for it! Check out a winery that has live music and dance along! Enjoy the most authentic wine making experience by trying wines before they even turn into wine and each and every step in between. You won’t regret it.
