Taste to Fight Hunger
Honoring 50 Years Fighting Hunger

Thanksgiving in Wine Country offers an opportunity to taste wine, purchase the perfect bottle for your holiday table and help fight hunger. April 2017 marked Northwest Harvest’s 50th year of fighting hunger. Participating wineries will be collecting donations during the month of November to honor this milestone.

Wine Yakima Valley has partnered with Northwest Harvest to help feed the hungry this holiday season. Last year your cash and food donations provided over 6000 meals to families in need around the Yakima Valley, Tri-cities, and Central WA. In honor of Northwest Harvest’s 50th year fighting hunger, we want to double our contribution. Visit any participating winery during the holiday weekend and look for the Thanksgiving in Wine Country Taste to Fight Hunger donation box and give.  All proceeds made to Taste to Fight Hunger will be donated to Northwest Harvest.

More facts about Northwest Harvest and hunger in our Valley:

  • Northwest Harvest in the ONLY non-profit food bank distributor operating statewide in Washington.
  • Last year NW Harvest distributed over 34 million pounds of food, free of charge, to about 380 food banks, meal programs, and high need schools all over the state. This equates to just over 2 million meals each month.
  • The NW Harvest Distribution Center in Yakima distributed about 6.3 million pounds of that total to 70 food banks, meal programs, and high need schools in the Yakima & Tri-Cities areas, as well as other parts of Central Washington, keeping your donations in your community.
  • 1 in 8 people (1 in 5 children) in our community struggle with hunger. More than 50% of those served are seniors and children.
  • Northwest Harvest is effective and efficient. More than 90 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to programs, and NW Harvest can provide a complete meal for just 22 cents.
  • Northwest Harvest relies on you, the community, for funding and volunteers. Their organization is completely independent and not government funded in any way. Last year, volunteers statewide gave more than 100,000 hours – equal to about 52 full-time employees.
