The first winery you come to when entering Yakima from I-82 is Kana Winery, located in the historic Larson Building in downtown Yakima. Local physician, Dr. Palmer Wright, launched Kana Winery in 2002 but not merely as a testimony for his love of wine, he also pays tribute to his lifetime enjoyment of the rock band The Grateful Dead. The wines, several of which have Grateful Dead themes, are primarily Rhône-style blends, using varietals such as Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Cinsault and Counoise.
A few non-Rhône varietal wines such as their Tempranillo, Chardonnay, Riesling, amongst others, can also be found in this endearing 1930’s tasting room.
