05 Mar Winery Spotlight ~ Tucannon Cellars
One of the Yakima Valley’s newest wineries is Tucannon Cellars, a family-owned and -operated winery at the base of Red Mountain. The winery is equipped with a brand new tasting room, a modern production facility, as well as a beautiful and isolated seating area to enjoy the wines. Each wine is handcrafted using the traditional French method. No machinery is used as every step of the way is done and facilitated by hand. The grapes are picked by hand and crushed manually. Punchdowns are also done by hand, which means no pump-over is necessary. This is the home of boutique wine in the Yakima Valley.
Best Bottle to Bring Home:
The Red Mountain AVA is a sub-appellation of the Yakima Valley. This small, burgeoning wine region is becoming a hot-spot for new vineyards. Red Mountain grapes—mostly Bordeaux and Rhône varietals—are among the most expensive and the source of an endlessly growing list of 90+ scoring wines. The following wineries are often the most popular for visitors during a tour of this small wine community.
